BOARD GAME DESIGN SIMILAR TO MONOPOLY
Posted 04 September 2010 - 10:23 AM
Hi,I have to design a board game in java, where the players have to throw a dice and move those many steps accordingly. On their way to the final destination, they do many monetary transactions. So,their should be a Database recording those transactions and the amount earned by each player. This is the basic idea. But iam unable to figure out how to start, and which classes to use. Please suggest. It would be great if you could mail me your suggestions on my email-id: ***REMOVED EMAIL ADDRESS*** Thanks.

Design is a big part of programming, so why dont you tell us what you think would be a good class structure, and we can tell you if you should do something else.

When looking at Monopoly, I see a few basic elements:
-Board
-Spaces
-Players
-Properties
-Chance/Community Service Cards
So think about their relations in terms of is-a (inheritance) and has-a (what components contain, encapsulate or manage other components). Doesn't the Board manage the Players, the Spaces, and basically every component? What about Players? They have Properties, Location, Money, etc. Now try breaking down the other elements this way. This should help you with your class design. Good luck!
